Galataea

Galataea is a planet several hundred light years from the human homeworld. It falls under a category of planets known as a Mega-Earth. It has roughly 12 times the surface area of Earth, rotates fast enough to provide 25 hour days, and it has a gravity that is 1.2 times that of Earth.

It is rocky, has several large moons orbiting it, and it is home to a race of crystalline beings capable of performing blatantly supernatural feats according to modern science and known laws of physics. In short, Galataea is an impossible, or shall we say fantasy world.

The planet has been colonized by humanity for several thousand years now. During that time human civilization has become the dominant force. Crystallim, the crystalline natives of that planet, did not begin to appear until roughly twenty-seven hundred years ago. So, in a way, humanity is just as native to the planet as the Crystallim since humanity's arrival is what sparked the awakening of the Crystallim race.

Many of the important countries on the super-massive planet Galataea, are named after old Earth empires. America, Japan, and Brittania share one continent. Canada has conquered another. However, there are nine massive continents on the planet and innumerable smaller islands that are large enough to support a decently populated nation. There are also moon-based colonies, space-colonies, and undersea cities.

Despite the presence of humanity for thousands of years, however, there are less than five billion humans who are allowed to live in the stellar system at any given time.Only birth on Galataea to Galataean born parents will guarantee planetary citizenship. Immigration from outside the system is heavily discouraged, but allowed in certain instances.

  1. Have you considered a subplot where Scott is drawn into some sort of conspiracy revolving why Crystallim originally appeared and perhaps a current conflict re: that mystery (for example - stopping the evolution / birth of further wild Crystallim vs. some sort of evil and cruel method of taking advantage of them). At the moment, I feel the admittedly entertaining story would benefit from one or more antagonists so that Scott actually struggles against something beyond just training / dueling / random adventure.

  2. I don't like the conspiracy idea.

  3. So in this story humanity has spread to the stars right. Do the crystallim get traded to groups of humans from other places?
